Transforming Vocational Education in Mufindi: A Collaborative Path to Inclusive Opportunities

The TIME Consortium – formed by The Universe For All Initiative (TUFA), Mufindi Education Trust (MET), and INCOFIN and MET Organisation (INCOMET) – is revolutionizing vocational training at the INCOMET Vocational Training Centre (IVTC) through a landmark Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on February 26, 2025. This five-year partnership unites proven expertise in inclusive development, community education, and economic empowerment to deliver hands-on skills training in carpentry, welding, electrical work, tailoring, computing, and more, targeting a 30% increase in participants, especially from marginalized groups including persons with disabilities. Aligned with Tanzania’s Vision 2050 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the initiative equips youth and adults with livelihoods for self-reliance and community prosperity.

Proven Collaboration Driving Real Progress

Frequent joint meetings since July 2025 demonstrate steadfast commitment, with leaders like TUFA CEO Nemes Temba, INCOMET Executive Director Lucas Luhanga, and IVTC Principal Geofrey Naftal advancing key milestones. Site visits in early August uncovered infrastructure needs, prompting accessibility audits, photographic evidence collection, and grant proposal drafts for dormitory upgrades, water systems, and workshops -now ready for donor support. Progress includes Wi-Fi installations boosting computer lab capacity to 30 users, functional welding and electrical workshops with confirmed instructors, and aggressive marketing via radio jingles, school visits, graduation ceremonies, posters, and a hotline (0754 271181) for enrollments starting October 2025.

Strategic action points from meetings on August 8, 14, 21, 25, September 1, 12, and 24 ensure accountability:

  • NACTVET registration and certification processes intensified through weekly taskforces.
  • Vehicle repairs and driving school revival to expand offerings.
  • Market research completed, fees aligned competitively, with motto “Ufundi ni Ajira” (Skills for Employment) guiding branding.
  • Online application forms developed and social media campaigns launched for nationwide reach.

Inclusive Facilities and Impactful Programs

INCOMET provides essential land, vehicles, and workshops, MET offers office spaces and community outreach, while TUFA leads project management, capacity building, and advocacy for disability inclusion, gender equity, and climate-resilient agriculture. Joint goals target 500 individuals with educational access in two years, 300 families via health/nutrition programs in three, and 25% more youth in sustainable entrepreneurship over five years. By addressing cross-cutting issues like human rights and technology, TIME creates an exemplary inclusive center where learners with special needs gain skills for dignified livelihoods, promoting economic growth in Mufindi District.
